The kiss on the forehead, the gesture every mother makes, is carved here in mother-of-pearl. The Virgin, head bowed under her veil, lifts the Infant with both hands; the whiteness of the material makes the scene even more intimate than in gold.
The 16 mm natural white mother-of-pearl is cut in low relief, and its pearly reflections animate the faces with the light. Rim and bail are bright polished yellow gold.
It is a medal given at birth, or to a young mother, as much as at the christening. It is worn on a very fine chain, and exists in 18 mm for later.
